Recipe for
dhokla: A traditional Gujarati snack, dhokla is one of the most adored snacks
in the nation and is prepared in a variety of ways. This quick and simple
dhokla recipe is both delicious and healthful. A recipe using besan and a
vibrant chilli tempering that steams and takes only 30 minutes to prepare.
Although gramflour is used in this dhokla recipe, suji can also be used. Besan batter with salt, turmeric, citric acid, and baking powder is combined, then steamed to perfection.
Dhokla can be served with a hot cup of tea or coffee for breakfast and as a light snack in the evening. The best way to consume it is as is, but you can also serve it. along with some green chutney or green chilli.
Ingredients:-
- 1 Cup gram flour (besan)
- 1 tbsp citric acid (vinegar)
- 1 tbsp sugar
- to taste salt
- A pinch of turmeric
- water (to make batter)
- 1 tbsp baking powder (dissolved in water)
- Baking Soda
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1/2 tbsp mustard seeds
- 4 - 5 green chilli
- 7-8 curry leaves
Instructions:-
- In a bowl mix gram flour, citric acid, salt and turmeric. Add water and make it into a smooth batter with medium thick consistency.
- Add baking soda or ENO into the dhokla mixture. Stir with a whisk to create a smooth, thick batter without any lumps.
- Grease the steaming tin with 2 drops of oil and pour the mixture into it. Steam for about 15-20 minutes or till cooked.
- In a pan add oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves and green chillies. Put 1 cup of water and sugar in it. When the water starts boiling, turn it off.
- Pour the tadka over the prepared dhokla.
