Moong dal halwa is one of my favourite. It is delicious and pretty easy to make. The only hard task is keep on stirring, you can never step away from the pan when you are toasting moong dal, else it may gets stuck or burn or form lumps.

Let us tell you that there are 212 calories in one bowl of Moong Dal Halwa. The total amount of calories is not very high. It is a nutritious dish and the ingredients used to cook this dish are rich in proteins, carbohydrates and fats.

1. It is rich in nutrients like zinc and protein, which can prove to be beneficial for your health.

3. Potassium and magnesium present in moong dal help in controlling blood pressure.

4. If Moong Dal Halwa is made with jaggery instead of sugar, it can become diabetic friendly too.

ingredients:

·         Oil / Desi ghee -250 gm

·         Yellow Moong Daal  -250 gm

·         Coconut powder  - 100 gm

·         Crushed Almond  - 25 gm

·         Sugar  -250 gm

·         Mawa  -500 gm

·         Milk  - 1 liter

Instructions:-

  • Soak 1 cup moong dal (spilt husked yellow mung lentils) in enough water overnight of for 4 to 5 hours. I soaked the lentils overnight.
  • Drain and then grind the moong dal to a smooth paste with some water. The less water you add, the better it will be.
  • Melt 9 to 10 tbsp ghee. Add the ground moong dal. Keep on stirring the halwa on a low to medium flame.
  •  Keep frying the dal till it becomes crumbly like semolina and oil starts leaving from the side now add crushed almonds to it.
  •  After roasting for 5 minutes, add coconut powder, sugar, mawa.
  • After roasting 10 minutes add milk to it.
  • Let it cook for 5 minutes then garnish it and serve.

Note:-

1.   Adding sugar first makes it a little difficult to fry the lentils.

2.   Roast the lentils as well as possible otherwise the smell of lentils will come.

3.   If you don't want to add mawa, you can skip mawa.
